I begin before the image is known.

The hand carries years—skill, memory, failure, instinct, desire—but none of them knows the painting in advance.

A mark enters the surface. Colour shifts. Something resists. Something opens. What becomes changes what may become.

I look, act, erase, wait, return. At times the painting moves beyond what I intended, and I have to meet what is there rather than force back what I expected.

I remain inside the making—responsible for every decision, but never in complete possession of where the work will lead.

I do not paint. I listen to what the painting says.

Painting, for me, begins there: in the tension between what I bring and what becomes possible only through the act of making.

The artwork is made; Art is given.
